Training Sessions - Conflict Resolution

QUT Research Project on "Conflict Resolution Skills for Property
Managers"

As a psychologist I am aware that there are great tools which are easy
to understand and implement, but no one has pulled them together for an
industry which is constantly dealing with conflict.  I decided that this
gap in conflict resolution knowledge needed to be addressed.  There had
to be a way to make the knowledge industry specific with examples
relevant to property management, and the training had to have merit.  As
a result, I have designed a high quality training package incorporating
theoretical and practical skills specifically for property managers -
and incorporated that into a research project.  This training course
"Conflict Resolution Skills for Property Managers" is a research project
which forms part of my Doctorate of Social Science at QUT.  This is one
of the few research studies done for property managers.  The study will
determine the skill levels of property managers regarding conflict
resolution.

The course covers:

• Theoretical concepts for resolving disputes
• Emotional responses
• Communication styles
• Physical cues
• Fighting styles
• Conflict Management styles
• Putting it in to practice.

As it is a research project, there are ethical guidelines which have to
be adhered to.  Participants will be required to read an information
sheet, sign a consent form and fill in questionnaires anonymously before
and after the training.  Each participant will receive a workbook which
has tips and activities on conflict resolution which they will use in the training and get to keep.

Training Sessions - Mental Health First Aid

From March 2005, Isla will be presenting Mental Health First Aid courses around Queensland.  This course teaches skills for providing initial help to people experiencing mental health problems such as depression, anxiety disorders, psychosis and substance abuse.  It was developed by the Centre for Mental Health Research at the Australian National University. 

Participants will learn the signs and symtoms of these mental health problems, where to get help and what sort of help has been shown to be effective.  This course is of particular interest to Managers, HR professionals, Team Leaders and Customer Service Officers.  A certificate of attendance will be provided.
